The Newman KM-16 is designed to trim lumber into multiple lengths in a highly productive and accurate manner. The machine comes standard with a very effective, low maintenance holddown system, upgraded dust collection, rack and pinion saw unit traversing and dedicated vari-drives for the feed system as well as the lumber and scrap conveyors. Lumber conveyors are bi-directional at the flip of a selector switch.

The KM-16 will process material up to 4″ (102 mm) thick and 16′ (4.8 m) long. The KM-16 is also available in 20′ and 24′ Length Capacities. Each V-belt driven saw unit is equipped with its own 7-1/2 HP (6 kw) motor. Feed rates are 20 to 60 cuts per minute. Saw blades are 18″ (457 mm) in diameter.

The machine can be extended to cut longer lengths. Saw units may be added or deleted. The machine has built-in 12″ lumber and scrap conveyors. New wider lumber belts are also available. For ease in sorting different length material, opposing split lumber belts are optional.

Digital saw position indicators are optional for reduced set up time. Saw scales are also available.

Engineered for reduced set up time and lower maintenance cost, this trimmer is designed with the customers’ needs in mind.

Frame:

Welded heavy duty 6″ channel and angle iron construction. Pieces are accurately fitted, making an exceptionally rigid frame.

Saw Units:

  • Overhead saw units with V-belt drive
  • 7-1/2 HP , 1800 RPM, 3/60/230-460 arbor motor
  • Ball bearing mounted arbors rotate at 3000 RPM
  • Cut increments set by hand cranks and secured by individual friction locks
  • Self-adjusting holddowns and lock-up heads are provided for each saw unit

Feed System:

  • Motors: 1-1/2 HP Reeves variable feed with Dodge reduction unit
  • Feed Speed: Variable 20 to 60 cpm
  • Feed Chain: #60 roller chain complete with four drags per chain, 2-1/4″ high, spaced at 27″ intervals
  • Each unit furnished with two chains

Capacities:

  • Maximum thickness: 4″
  • Minimum length: 18″ standard and 16″ optional
  • Maximum length: 16′ standard and 20′ to 24′ optional
  • Accuracy of ±1/32″ or better can be maintained

Saw Blades:

  • 18″ diameter, 1-1/4″ bore, 5 degree negative hook, .050″ side clearance

Conveyors:

  • Scrap conveyor: 12″ wide standard, 18″ optional, Belt Direction to customer specification.
  • Lumber conveyor: 12″ wide standard, 18″ optional, Belt direction is reversible – selector switch on operator console.
  • 12-inch split opposing belts standard (lumber conveyor only)
  • 9-inch split opposing belts optional(lumber conveyor only)
  • Motors: 1-1/2 HP gearmotors with variable frequency drives.
  • Grooved pulleys with guides on belts for ease of tracking.
